MCC Courses meeting New SUNY General Education

Courses are 3 credits unless the credits are noted next to the course title

Monroe Community College follows the SUNY General Education (SUNY GE) framework, effective Fall 2023 for new first-time students entering AA and AS degree programs and Fall 2024 for new first-time students entering AAS degree programs.

• Students in AA and AS degree programs must complete at least 30 credits of SUNY GE from a minimum of 7/10 Knowledge and Skills Areas, including four required areas (see below).
• Students in AAS degree programs must complete at least 20 credits of SUNY GE from Knowledge and Skills Areas, including four required areas (see below).
• Two core competencies (CTRN, INFO) must also be completed to meet graduation requirements for all Associate degree programs (AA, AS, and AAS). Go to Competencies

Students who matriculated into a program prior to the new SUNY General Education framework follow the former SUNY General Education framework. Your Degree Works audit displays the appropriate framework.

Knowledge and Skills Areas

The following four are required for all AA, AS, and AAS Degrees:

Communication – Written and Oral (COMW, COMO)
Diversity: Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice (DVRS)
Mathematics (and Quantitative Reasoning) (MATH)
Natural Sciences (and Scientific Reasoning) (NSCI)

A minimum of three of these six are required for AA and AS Degrees:

Humanities (HUMN)
Social Sciences (SOCS)
The Arts (ARTS)
US History and Civic Engagement (USCV)
World History and Global Awareness (WHGA)
World Languages (WLNG)

Competencies

Students in A.A., A.A.S., and A.S. programs must also complete the two core competencies (CTRN, INFO) to meet graduation requirements.
